Coating Damage
The classification of coating damage should refer to standards: European corrosion grades, ISO 12944, ASTM610. These standards illustrate failure coating types observed within small areas of the substrate.
This damage level indicates the extent of failure expansion, including large areas such as tank surfaces or large-diameter pipe surfaces.
Most cases show that when coating damage occurs in a dispersed manner, attempting repairs is often uneconomical. Complete removal of failed coatings and full reapplication are required to ensure quality. However, when coating failures occur, local repairs are often adopted for economic reasons despite various challenges.
Whenever possible, supervisors should view failed coatings from a global perspective rather than as isolated or localized areas.
