Bridge Cable Fire Protection Background
Cables are critical load-bearing and force-transmitting components of bridges, including main cables, hangers, and stay cables in suspension bridges, cable-stayed bridges, and arch suspension bridges. Their safety and durability directly affect the normal use and overall safety of the bridge, making the cable structure the lifeline of the bridge.



Fire is a significant threat to cable safety, including fires caused by human arson, spontaneous combustion of new energy vehicles, oil tanker accidents, construction electrical fires, traffic accidents, landscape lighting, circuit fires, lightning fires, etc.




In the absence of fire protection, the temperature of steel wires in cables can reach over 1000°C within 10 minutes during a fire. Once bridge cables heat up to 550°C, their strength and hardness decrease by about 40%. Cables under tension will break quickly, leading to chain reactions. If bridge cables fail, it can result in severe safety incidents and economic losses.
Bridge Cable Fire Protection Technology
The aerogel fire protection layer is only 8 millimeters thick. For example, for a cable with a diameter of 130 millimeters, it weighs only 4.26 kilograms per meter, adding almost no additional load to the cable, not altering its shape, and not affecting its aerodynamic profile.
During a fire, the aerogel fire protection layer can keep the temperature of the bridge cable steel wires below 170°C for two hours, buying valuable time for firefighting to protect the safety of the bridge.

The aerogel fire protection layer is very dense, providing excellent wrapping around the cable, isolating corrosive factors and providing anti-corrosion protection for the steel wires. Its adhesive strength on PVC protective sleeves is greater than 6MPa.
The aerogel fire protection layer has undergone millions of vibration fatigue tests without cracking, peeling, or degradation in adhesion and fire protection performance. It maintains its fire protection performance even under tensile stress conditions.

Aerogel Protective Material
Aerogel is a highly dispersed solid material formed by colloidal particles or high polymer molecules聚structing into a nanoporous network structure, filled with gaseous dispersion media in the pores.
The aerogel fire protection layer combines nanoporous SiO² aerogel with an adhesive, incorporating hollow glass microspheres and carbon-based insulation technology, exhibiting characteristics of high specific surface area, high porosity, low density, and low thermal conductivity.
